Since marrying my husband, I have suddenly learned many fun and interesting things about his traditions and his heritage. His family is Swedish, so they practice many traditions I had never even heard of, such as Santa Lucia Day where my husband stays up most of the night making Lussekatter.
I have never had actual traditions before, other than opening presents under the Christmas tree. Before, I would take the few traditions I did have for granted. Never realizing how special they can truly be. Even the simple act of Erik making Lussekatter brings us together in ways you would not expect. Not only that but our traditions are something that make our family what we are. They are something that we all share together. That we can all get excited for. Could there be anything more special than that?
This has to make me wonder, what other traditions do people have that I have never heard of? Do your traditions stem from your heritage? What are things that make your family special or different from all the other families in the world?
